Openmade is pleased to present “at first sight II”, a multi-disciplinary project by Chilean artist Denise Lira-Ratinoff. This project is a trilogy of time, space and audience, presented on three different platforms: a book, a website and a photo-installation. Through photographs of melting and receding glaciers, this trilogy witnesses the immense environmental devastation that is occuring on our planet.
The intention of “at first sight II” is to revisit these environments as they melt into the past and question the public awareness of the importance of time, life and death.

On Saturday, March 8, 2008 from 6 PM to Midnight, “at first sight II” will feature
a ONE NIGHT ONLY site-specific photo-installation. The installation space is a Loading Dock which will allow all passers-by and cars to see within the exhibition.
This non-traditional space, which was specially chosen for the exhibition, will remain
in its original condition in order to allow a sensory experience relevant to the images.
More than explaining it, those who wish to experiment with a different sight should experience it.

In conjunction with this photo-installation, “at first sight II” will present
16:03:27,
a limited edition book (300 copies) signed by the artist.

16:03:27 will be available for purchase, from book 1 to 300 on a first come, first serve basis, simultaneously at the photo-installation and through openmade.com.

This book explores the concept of time and questions the public awareness of the importance of time through images of glaciers.
Drawn and sculpted by the ocean and the wind, these dramatic natural shapes immortalized by photography will never be captured again. They are ephemeral witnesses of receding and disappearing ice fields.
Not knowing for how long, is the mystery of time. At the crossroad where life and death meet and from a different perception, this book invites us to see what will no longer exist and what already has melted.

At the end of the 6 hour photo-installation and when the 300th copy of the book is sold,
16:03:27 will never again be available.

openmade.com will be followed the entire process of “at first sight II”.

During the last eight years, Denise Lira-Ratinoff has explored the interaction of nature and the audience through installations related to the awareness of the importance of time and to establish closeness between nature and the world today. She has held individual exhibitions in Chile, Peru, Cuba and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Chile, Argentina, Peru, El Salvador, Mexico, United States and Switzerland.
