This Week, With ACP
October may still be a few months away, but there are a lot of photography events around town this week, so we thought we'd put together a quick email with a few highlights.
Local photographer and teacher Nancy Floyd, a reviewee at the ACP 9 Portfolio Review, has this week's triple crown of photo events, with a solo show, a published book, and a forthcoming cover story in Creative Loafing. See ACP Now! for details about her show. We're hoping to bring an interview with her to ACP Now! later this week.
On Thursday, writer and scholar Lisa Kurzner will be giving a lecture on Alfred Stieglitz's photographs of Georgia O'Keeffe at the High Museum. The lecture is in conjunction with the show "Georgia O'Keeffe and the Women of the Stieglitz Circle, on view through May 4th at the High Museum.
Also on Thursday, ACP co-founder Corinne Adams will be speaking about her recent mission work in Central America. Corinne will be sharing stories and photographs from Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
On Saturday, Chilean photographer Denise Lira-Ratinoff (who also attended the ACP 9 Portfolio Review) has a one-night-only photo event called "At First Sight II" that's bound to be exciting. Lira-Ratinoff's presentation is three-fold; a website, a book, and a site-specific photo-installation of her pictures of glaciers. In sum, "this trilogy witnesses the immense environmental devastation that is occurring on our planet."
And don't forget to save the date for Cuban-American artist Maria Magdalena Campos Pons, who'll be lecturing at Spelman College (as part of ACP's Lecture Series) on March 20th, at 7pm.
